What Is Mind–Body & Somatic Therapy?
This is an approach that focuses on the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and physical body—recognizing that stress, anxiety, and trauma are not just mental experiences, but are also stored and expressed in the body.
While traditional talk therapy focuses on thoughts and insight, somatic therapy helps you tune into physical sensations, patterns of tension, and your nervous system responses. This allows you to work with how your body holds stress—not just why.
You learn how to:
○ Notice how emotions and stress show up physically (tightness, fatigue, restlessness)
○ Understand your nervous system responses (fight, flight, freeze, shutdown)
○ Develop awareness of body-based patterns and triggers
○ Learn ways to regulate your system and feel more grounded
○ Gently release stored tension and move out of survival mode
At Evolve Counseling Centers, somatic therapy is integrated with approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), allowing for deeper, more embodied healing—not just insight, but real, felt change.
You may benefit from this therapy if you:
○ Feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm
○ Notice physical symptoms like tension, fatigue, or restlessness
○ Have insight into your experiences but still feel “stuck”
○ Struggle to relax or feel safe in your body
○ Experience shutdown, numbness, or difficulty staying present
○ Want a more holistic, mind–body approach to healing
